Art Group
Contact: Jacqueline Doig-Smith and Cynthia Hampton
The Art Group meets about 8 times per year and visits include various Art Galleries with guided tours, sometimes with an artist present. Other activities may include visits to private homes with special collections of art. The Conveners hope to include more architecture into the programme in the future.
Book Group (BDS)
Contact: Erica Maginess
The Book Group reads the same book title sourced from the Book Discussion Group (BDS) over a month and then meets to discuss it, following questions supplied with the book. Meetings take place in members' homes and this restricts membership to 10, which is as many as can be accommodated in hosts' homes. The pleasure of discussing a wide variety of books assures an almost full attendance at meetings.
Epicurean Group
Contact: Ann Marsh
We meet five or six times a year for lunch and try to get a wide variety of restaurants and ethnicities. To choose a restaurant, we step down the alphabet and select one with a name starting with the next alphabetical character. New members are always welcome, and it is a great way to meet new friends.
Film Group
Contact: Barbara Bone
The Film Group meets to go to a movie on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, except December and January. Members vote for the film of their choice from the options suggested by the convener, and we all go to that movie. We meet for coffee after the movie and rank it from 5 - excellent, to 1- not recommended! Members enjoy a wide range/genres of films, from comedy to drama, true life stories, etc. There is a loyal group of members, and new members are always welcome!
Travel Group
Contact: Carolyn Marks
The Travel Group meets on the fourth Friday of each series, in a member's home, where members or visitors present on a travel theme. Great armchair travel! Membership is limited by the ability of hosts to take large numbers.
Walking Group
Contact: Christine Bridgman & Lyn Chapman
The Walking Group meets every Monday at 1 pm. Members take turns in organising the walks and details of the walk are circulated a day or two in advance. Walks are generally 50-60 minutes in duration and explore areas of interest throughout greater Christchurch, including parks, rivers, wetlands and the central city. The group's aims are to improve fitness, enjoy the outdoors and to socialise. New members are always welcome, so come along and join us!
